Holiday Helping Hands

The Gowanda Police Department and Gowanda Lions Club have joined forces to help provide a Merry Christmas for the children in need within the community.

With the combined efforts of the Police Department and the Lions Club this program provides toys and gifts to children from infancy to seniors in high school who are residents of the Gowanda School District. Donations obtained will be distributed to the families during the month of December. This past year we reached over 200 children.

Donations to support Holiday Helping Hands should be made payable to the Gowanda Lions Club, PO Box 1, Gowanda New York. Any financial assistance provide will help make this long-running program successful. If anyone knows of a family who might benefit from this program, please contact Steve Raiport at the Police Department at 532-2020 or Sandy Gaylord at 532-4457 or Peggy Luther at 777-1302.

Any parent or guardian that is unable to obtain a bicycle safety helmet for their child under age 14, please contact the police department for one.

Bicycle helmets will be provided courtesy of the Gowanda Police Department and Healthy Community Alliance of Gowanda as part of the grant Safe Routes to School Program.

The Police Department and the Lions Club will once again be doing the Holiday Helping Hands toy drive. We will once again be asking for donations either monetary or unwrapped gifts for this great cause. Last year we provided gifts to 255 kids and provided 100 meals to families for Christmas.

This year’s Christmas In Gowanda will be paying tribute to and honoring the First Responders.

December 2nd and 3rd will be the annual Christmas in Gowanda. December 3rd will be the tree lighting at 5:30 pm and the Parade at 7 pm. This years parade is being opened up to anyone wishing to put together any festive/winter theme float and asking area fire companies to deck out their fire trucks again in Christmas lights or winter/holiday theme or movie. Several activities are being planned for this weekend. Stay tuned and save the dates.
