Sponsored by the Gowanda PTA and Healthy Community Alliance, in partnership with the Village of Gowanda’s Safe Routes to School Initiative and the Food Bank of WNY, a Wellness Walk will be held on Saturday, May 14th, 2016. All proceeds will go to support the Gowanda Elementary School Backpack Program. Registration is 8:45 a.m.; the walk begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Gowanda Middle School. The $5.00 registration fee fills one backpack with food -two breakfasts, two lunches and two pieces of fresh fruit. Snacks will be provided for the walkers.

Village of Gowanda New Garbage regulations
The Village of Gowanda will no longer be providing curbside garbage pickup, effective May 26, 2016. Beginning June 1st, Village residents will need to contract with individual waste collectors for this service. As of May 12, the permitted waste collectors are:

Residents can also take their garbage/recyclables to the Dayton Transfer Station. Dump tickets are needed for garbage, recycling is free. Tickets for garbage/large household items can be purchased at the Persia Town Hall and Gowanda Shop ‘n Save. Hours at the transfer station are Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Gowanda Sewage Treatment Plant Recyclable Area on Aldrich Street will still accept metal and plastic recylables. Days and times of operation have expanded: Mondays and Wednesdays from 8-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. and Saturdays from 8-10 a.m.
Public Hearing
The Village of Gowanda will hold a public hearing on February 3, 2016 at 6:00 to discuss garbage and recycling options for the Village. It will be held at the Gowanda Fire Hall, 230 Aldrich Street, Gowanda, NY 14070.
Village work session
The Village of Gowanda has scheduled a work session to discuss garbage and recycling options for Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the Village hall.
Recycling Center
The Village of Gowanda has opened a recycling center at the Wastewater Treatment plant located on Aldrich Street. Bins are available for plastic and tin/steel/metal. No glass or e-waste will be taken. The center will be open on Wednesdays from 8:00 until 11:00 a.m. and again from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. It will also be open on Saturday mornings from 8:00 until 10:00 a.m.
